Meet The Speakers

Sam Stitt | MAWC

Samantha over ten years of experience in the water industry, currently serving as the Water Quality Supervisor at the Municipal Authority of Westmoreland County’s George Sweeney Water Treatment Plant. In this role, she ensures the delivery of safe drinking water and manages challenges related to seasonal algae blooms.Samantha began her career at an environmental laboratory, where she honed her skills in water quality analysis and environmental regulations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in education, which equips her to effectively communicate complex water issues to both colleagues and the community.Known for her collaborative approach, Samantha actively engages with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to uphold high water quality standards. Her commitment to professional development and mentoring aspiring water industry professionals reflects her passion for environmental sustainability and public health.

Michael Czypinski | PWSA

He is the Water Quality Manager at Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority and has worked in the industry for eight years. He has experience with conventional filtration, membrane filtration, and UV technologies, among other water treatment methods. Before entering the water industry, his background was in ecology and evolutionary biology. He worked as a forest ecologist, contributing to projects with the University of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the US Forest Service.

Scott Moegling, P.E. | Akron Water Supply

Scott Moegling has over 30 years of experience in the water industry, including roles in construction, research, engineering consulting, and regulatory compliance. For the past decade, he has served as an Operations Manager for large surface water systems and currently works as the Utilities Technical Services Manager for Akron Water, overseeing daily O&M, capital improvements, compliance, and laboratory oversight. He holds both a Bachelor's and Master's in Civil Engineering from The University of Akron, is a Registered Professional Engineer, and holds a Class 3 Water Supply license. He has contributed to numerous publications and professional presentations and serves on multiple state and national technical committees focused on drinking water technology and regulation development.
